WordPress 2.5 Released

Apr 13th, 2008 by Waikhom Web Development / 1 Comment »

Today, I just upgraded my wordpress into the latest version of wordpress – the WordPress 2.5. Unlike the various versions released in the past year, this one has a very different look and has new interesting features. This version marks a major change in the theme of the admin control panel and addition of new features in the admin area like the addition of special features in the writing editor. As I start using this version of the wordpress, I found some interesting new features and some drawbacks too. Therefore, I’m listing some of them here.

New Features of WordPress 2.5

  • It has a more advanced rich editor with more advanced and easy to use buttons like “Add media”, “Add Video”, “Add Audio” buttons.
  • IMO, this new version seems to load much faster than the previous one – especially when you are opening the “Write a post/page” page.
  • Addition of filenames in parenthesis in the “theme-editor” page. This one is great because in the old version, sometimes we get confused which file to edit especially with “index.php” which used to be listed under the name “Main Index Template”. Now, every file in a theme is listed like “Main index Template (index.php)” and therefore it is easier to identify the file that we want to edit.
  • The “Add link” feature has now come under the main tab “Write”. So, next time you want to add a link, first go to “write” and then choose “link” under it.
  • The “Blogroll” main tab has been completely removed and some of them has been put under the main tab “Manage”.
  • A new feature called the “Media Library” has been added under the “Manage” Tab.
  • The “Tags” tab has also been added under “Manage” with which you can see all the tags used in your posts.
  • There is an option to change the admin theme colors under the “Your profile” tab in “users”.
  • And finally it has a much different theme which looks lighter than the previous one.

In fact, there are many new features in this one and is much better than the previous one but still I have to say that the previous theme of the admin control panel looks more pleasant and is easy to use. The new theme is somewhat confusing. I’m not sure if this new theme will fit me after some time but I do like the previous one. However, in overall, this new wordpress version is much better and I also recommend you to upgrade your wordpress into this new one if you are already using wordpress. You can download the wordpress 2.5 version at http://wordpress.org/download/ . Use it and enjoy blogging  :) .

How to earn money from a proxy site?

Mar 20th, 2008 by Waikhom Web Development / 13 Comments »

You might know that many people are earning money from their proxy sites but you might not know how? It’s pretty simple and I’m going to tell how so that you could also be one of those who are earning money without doing any hard work. First you got to be ready to invest a little money – for buying a domain name and hosting account.
As I said, it’s pretty simple and I think you will be able to earn good money by reading the steps I’ve written below:

  1. Choose a domain name. The domain name doesn’t necessarily need to have the word “proxy” in it. Because nowadays, the word “proxy” is blocked by many network filters and therefore is no recommended. Instead, you can choose a short (4 to 8 letters), easy to remember word for your domain. Now, head over to Namecheap or any domain seller and buy your domain. If you are not familiar with buying domains, read this article on “How to buy a domain name and setup your hosting account?”.
  2. The Second step is to buy a hosting package which allows proxy scripts. There are many hosting companies BUT don’t buy a normal hosting package because you will simply be suspended if you use proxy scripts on their host. So, you got to find a host which allows proxy. For that you can heck out the list of proxy hosting services. Or you can choose one of my recommended proxy hosting providers – TechEntrance which gives proxy hosting and unlimited domains at a cheap price of $7.95/month (Good for beginners) OR Blogshoster – 3 to unlimited domains(30GB to 220GB bandwidth) depending upon plan – $4.99/mo to $14.99.
  3. After you get your hosting account, making your proxy site is simple. Just download a proxy script and install it. Phproxy and Zelune are recommended. If you are not familiar with making proxy sites, read “steps for making a proxy site”.
  4. After your proxy site has been built, your last but one task is to put your ads in it. Don’t forget this because without your ads, you won’t earn anything. Now, go to Adsense and sign up the program. You can also sign up for Adbrite because it is one of the best ad network that you can use on the browsed pages. * Adsense ads are NOT to be displayed on the browsed pages *. You can start putting ads to your proxy. You need a little HTML knowledge for that. However, there are many Adsense ready templates for proxy and you can use one of them. All you have to do is change the pub id.
  5. Now the final most important part is here – Promote and promote. You got to bring traffic to your site to generate revenue. So, just promote and keep promoting your site. But how do you promote it? Submit your proxy site to proxy list sites and proxy top sites like proxy.org, techfaq.com, myipproxylist.com etc. To know more about how to promote your proxy site, read these article on “How to promote and bring traffic to you proxy site?” and “How to Maximize revenue from your proxy site?”.

Now, your work for your proxy site is finished and once you got some traffic, you will simply earn money without doing much work. If you got a fully promoted proxy site, you can earn about $20 per day ie. $600 monthly. And you can have unlimited domains in your hosting account except the fact that if you have many domains, it will slow down your proxy. 5 proxies is ok for the hosting package given above. Anyway, I hope this helps. And for your goodness, just don’t forget to keep promoting your proxy site because the more you bring traffic, the more you earn. And always remember my simple but precious advice – “Be Innovative and try new things”. Good Luck Folks :) . Happy earning.

Steps for making a proxy site

Mar 19th, 2008 by Waikhom Web Development / 9 Comments »

Making a proxy site of your own in your own domain is not a tough work. But some people, especially newbies, get stucked in the process. So, today, I’ll be telling you some easy steps on how to make a proxy site of your own. However, I’ve assumed that the user have some idea of website management like buying a domain, domain name server setup, uploading files, etc. Also, I’ve used PHProxy for making the proxy site because of it’s easy to use and it’s capability to proxy secure urls like https protocol. Now, if you want to make a proxy site of your own, just follow the following steps:

  1. Buy a domain name. If you don’t know how to, Read this article on “How to buy a domain name?“. The domain name can be any but it should be short and easy to remember because you don’t want your users to forget your domain name or confuse with others.
  2. Now, go to Phproxy download link and download the phproxy script. Extract the files into your computer. Now, you will see some files and these files must be uploaded into your domain’s root folder
  3. If you have an FTP Client, upload the script files into your domain’s root folder (public.html folder in case you have a single domain or your domain is the main domain of your hosting). If you don’t have an FTP client, upload the files through your Cpanel’s File manager.

After the upload is complete, your proxy is ready for use. Now, you can start promoting your proxy and put adsense and other advertisements in it to generate revenue.

How to buy a domain name and setup your hosting account?

Mar 18th, 2008 by Waikhom Web Development / 6 Comments »

You can buy a domain name in many ways but I’ll tell you one of the easiest ways. I use namecheap.com for buying domains because it is easy to use and reliable. Another place where you can buy domains is godaddy.com but it is not recommended because godaddy can suspend your domain name at any time if any complain for spamming has been registered. Also there are many other websites where you can buy domains but I recommend namecheap especially for beginners. Now, if you are ready to buy a domain from namecheap, just follow the following steps:

  1. Go to Namecheap and create a new user account.
  2. Then click on the link “Register a domain” and in the search box that comes below, type whatever the domain name that you want to buy.
  3. If your domain name is available, reports on the domain availability will be displayed. You can only buy a domain if only it is available. So, if your domain is not available, think of another domain name and when you finally got an available domain, follow the remaining steps.
  4. Tick on the domain name that you want and click the button “Add to cart” (below). With that, you will be redirected to a new page.
  5. In the next page, there is a coupon system. If you have any coupon, you can apply it here (Namecheap coupons here). Now, you click the standard express button which is on the middle right side of the page.
  6. If you are not logged in, you will be asked to log in. And then, you will be redirected to a page where you need to enter your information. Enter the details and click the button “Continue to options” which is located at the bottom left.
  7. Now, you can check or uncheck the “whoisguard” facility. If you want to keep your privacy, you should check the button. Then click “Continue to options” again and it will take you to your name server setup page.
  8. If you already have a hosting account, enter the name servers of your hosting account here and if not, just leave it and click the “Continue Checkout” button.
  9. Then a payment option page will come where you can either choose Paypal or Credit Card as the payment mode. Choose whatever you prefer and then enter the details. In case of Paypal you will be asked to log in first. After you log in just click the “pay” button to finish the registration. After this your registration is complete and the domain name is now yours.

Now, you can enter the name servers of your hosting account and your site will be active in minutes. If you don’t know how to change the name servers of your domain, read this article on “How to change the name server of your domain name?”. After that you can start making your website and uploading files through your Cpanel or your FTP Client.

Setting up your hosting account

If you already have a hosting account, you can follow the steps below. If you don’t it’s easy to buy a new hosting account with your domain name as the hostname. Just give the name of your domain during the registration for your hosting account and your hosting account will be configured by your host personals (In case you haven’t pointed the nameservers to your host, you need to change the nameservers too). No9w, if you already have a hosting account and if you want to add a domain as an addon domain, follow the following steps:

  1. Point the nameservers of your domain to your hosting account, For more details on nameservers, read the article on “How to change the name server of your domain name?”.
  2. Log into your cpanel. In your cpanel homepage, find “Add on Domains” and click it.
  3. In the next page, you will be asked to enter the domain name. Just enter the new domain name without “www” eg. “waikhom.com” and enter a password and submit the form.

Then, you are done, Your domain will be active soon. However, it may take from 5 minutes to 24 hours depending on the services that you use. So, be patient and wait for the domain to be active.

MANIT Bhopal – My college

Mar 16th, 2008 by Waikhom General / 33 Comments »

Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT) – thats my college. I study computer science here and I’m currently in third year (6th semester). Technically, it is one of the NITs which mean National Institutes of technology. The NITs are National level institutes which are autonomous and are deemed universities in the engineering discipline. Well, my college is also one of the NITs and therefore, a deemed university too. I can’t say much about this college but I’m sure there are lots of brilliant students here. I like being around with such talented people and I enjoy the environment here – “Hey, Never study for exam until it is too late” ;) .

Talking about college, I want to mention placements this year. About a month ago, all of the final years had been placed in one or more companies. But the thing is that just two days ago, Microsoft’s recruitment was scheduled suddenly and two got selected. Considering the placements this year, I can proudly say that my college has one of the best campus recruitments in the NITs.

The Politics – , I don’t wanna talk about it. I’ll just say there are lots of politics here and I’m not the only one who hates it. But there are good things too. So, its not much a big thing to worry.

The college is a big campus but there are a lot more fields of grass than the buildings. Sometimes, I feel like I’m in a desert because the temperature is so high, the college building is so far from the hostel and when I go for college, it reminds me of the movie “Hidalgo”.

And hey, if you wanna see some snapshots of MANIT Bhopal, check these out.

This is the best picture of my college that I have in my PC :) .
MANIT Bhopal - Main Building

This is the best part. Well, this picture is taken at the energy center which most of the students don’t bother to have a look at. But once you see this place, you will like it and I too kind of like it.
Manit Bhopal - Subway

And this is our Students’ Activity Center. I don’t know why they call it Students’ Activity Center. The students hardly go there for their activities.
Manit Bhopal - Students activity center

Well, you have seen some snapshots of my college. What do you think about it? Nice nah? But you might wanna check out if you are planning for a career here – hehe. Anyway, my crap stories about MANIT is finished here and if you want to see the real nice pictures of the Institute, visit the MANIT official website.
