What do you find in the Greatest People of the world?

August 5th, 2008By WaikhomGeneral

“Rags to riches” is a very commonly known phrase used to those who were in a difficult life once but have become famous and rich. Here, we are going to see some of the most popular people of the world who were once in poverty or a very hard life. What I want to share with you here is that many great people of the world were once very weak and they have become great because of their determination, hard work and will power. When I think of this, I believe the world is a great place to live because any person can become great and powerful no matter how weak or poor he was in his past.

This is a great inspiration for all of us and I think that you should never give up your dreams for nothing because all it takes to be successful is will, determination and hard work. To make you even better, I’ll share with you some of the greatest people of our time like Bill Clinton, Tom Cruise, and Oprah etc. For a bigger list of such people, you might want to see the Wikipedia page on Nouveau Riche. In fact, I do believe that people who had a rough life in childhood is tougher and can challenge tougher problems. Now, talking about Nouveau Riche which means “new rich” in French, we see some of the richest people of the 1990s. The Nouveau Riche as listed in the CNN site has the list of the richest people of the world in the year 1991.

Now, if you see these people and their early life history, you will know that most of them had a rough early life which makes them strong and tough. They have a strong determination and will power that enables them to overcome the biggest hurdles of all time. Now, aren’t you inspired by them? It’s not about having a rough life that’s important. It’s about their strong feeling of determination, will power and hard work which they developed in their early life. But you can also develop that spirit if you try it today and never give up for anything. Be a strong, highly determined person and work hard and you will be like them some day.

Local plant cures Cancer

June 14th, 2008By WaikhomGeneral

In the past few weeks, it has come to the attention of the people of Manipur (India) and the state government that a local plant, which they refer to as the “Ranlung damdawi”, might be capable of curing cancer. From the references of the people, the plant can cure cancer-like diseases and many other diseases including sinusitis, tumors, asthma, piles and body aches.

The plant had been used as a traditional medicinal plant by the inhabitants of the Saikot Village. Chawlien Hmar, an 82 yrs old inhabitant of the village, discovered the curing capability of the plant only a few weeks ago. Before he discovered this valuable plant, a tumor on his neck had been diagnosed as Cancer and he was prescribed to undertake medical treatment which he couldn’t pursue because of financial shortage. With frustration, he tried this traditional plant used by forefathers for medicinal uses. He made a potion of this plant and applied it to the tumor on his neck. Amazingly, the size of the tumor reduced rapidly and finally it had completely vanished from his neck. All of this happened so quickly within a few hours that the news had been spread to all the local people.

A Picture of the anti-cancerous plant found in Manipur

Afterwards, many people started taking this plant for various diseases other than tumors. A few weeks later, a team of scientists from the Institute of Bioresource and Sustainable Development (IBSD) collected specimens of this locally grown herb in a village in Manipur and claimed to have properties to cure cancer. The team led by Project Coordinator Mohindro Singh Khaidem and including Natural Product Scientist Ch. Brajakishore had confirmed the plant as Croton Caudatus Geiseler.

Prof. Potsangbam Kumar had also identified the composition of the plant. According to his reports, the leaves of the plant contain Crotoflorine (a phynolic substance), Crostsparimine (a new base mop) and Sparsiflorine (an alkaloid substance). And the roots and stems contain Dotriacontamol Beta amyrine and Beta sitosterat which are used in treating cancer related ailments as per the reports from the Central Drug Research Institute, Lucknow. The team has also proposed the state and central government the extreme need for its extensive cultivation. Many of the experts will be working on further research. They have also given credit to Hmar for the discovery of this anti-cancerous plant.

Well, what do you think? Give your comments here if you have anything to share. By the way, I think the World Health Organization needs to have a little attention on this plant as it is grown in the Saikot village widely and can be used for very cheap cancer treatment. Why depend on the costliest cancer medicine if you have a free plant that can cure cancer in no time?

Exams starting tomorrow

May 2nd, 2008By WaikhomGeneral

After lots of fluctuations in the exam schedule, like changing from 5th of this month to 3th and again postponing the last 3 exams until the completion of campus recruitments, our exams are finally starting from tomorrow – the 3th of May 2008. Even though I couldn’t complete most of the syllabus, I feel that I’m not alone in this. Almost everybody in our batch didn’t read at all on a blind hope that the exams will be postponed. Now, it’s damn sure that the 6th sem B-tech exams of MANIT Bhopal are starting from tomorrow but the students are still not prepared. Many of them seems to have surrendered to the vast amounts of topics they have to cover for the exams. Of course, I’m also one of them. It seems I have no hope for the exams and here I’m trying to spend a little time sharing my hurdles with you and forget all the tensions of the exam.

After reading for about 8-9 hours today, I feel like I’ve been day dreaming and have forgotten almost everything that I read. The vast amount of topics that I have to read and the meager amount of time I have – thinking of them, I just want to give up. And in fact, my last hope is luck. Maybe the questions will be easy enough to make a 50% score or so. Maybe I would remember everything I read. Maybe all the questions will come from topics that I read. :( Now, luck is my last hope. But for you there are still many hopes. So, if I were you, I would start reading right now so that I don’t end up like I’m now. What I mean is ->

“Don’t wait for the time when it is too late. Do your duties in time and it will be a lot more easier for you.”

Indian Premier League – IPL

April 17th, 2008By WaikhomGeneral

If you are a football fan, you would never want to miss the English Premier League matches. The English Premier League is the biggest Inter-Club Football Championships in Great Britain and of course it is popular all over the world. If you are a fan of Cricket, you will find a similar enthusiasm in the Indian Premier League. The Indian Premier League is a similar league between cricket clubs in India like the Mumbai Indians, the Royal Challengers and so on. If you are an Indian cricket Fan, you might already know this and you are probably waiting for the first match to come but for those who don’t, the IPL is starting today and if you don’t want to miss the match, I reckon you switch on your TV set right now. But before you go watch this exciting league, you better have a look at these details of the league matches.

For this season, There are eight teams mainly based on eight Indian cities. They play each other in home-and-away-basis. Each teams plays other team twice and finally four teams will get selected for the semifinal and the winners will be playing in the finals of IPL. IPL is starting today and will end on 1st of June. There are many international stars involved in it and for the fans of cricket it is going to be great fun.

These eight teams are Clubs from Kolkata, Mumbai, Mohali, Jaipur, Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore. Players were bid in order to form the squads for each team. Those players whose values exceeded more that 1Million dollars are termed to be as Iconic players. Each team has one iconic player. The most costliest bid team is Mumbai Indians. Their cost is US$111.9 million whereas the second is Bangalore Royal Challengers having a cost of US$111.6 million.

Well, if you are going to watch the whole league, you should keep yourself in touch with the latest scoreboards and schedules. But will you wait for your “full of advertisement TV channel” to show you the scoreboards or the fixer. I don’t think that’s a good idea. Because, if its me, I would just go to a website of the Indian Premier League and watch the scores and schedules there. And if you need a little help on it, here it is the non -official website of the IPL-Indian Premier League. There, you can find latest scores of IPL, standings, squads, team profile and other updates related to IPL. Above all, It tells about other scores of matches that are going on. I hope it helps you guys with your cricket enthusiasm and make you keep in touch with the latest scoreboards. Anyway, enough talking. I got to go and watch the matches. So, bye for now. You too watch the matches in Channel ten (Australian) and enjoy the matches.

MANIT Bhopal – My college

March 16th, 2008By WaikhomGeneral

Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT) – thats my college. I study computer science here and I’m currently in third year (6th semester). Technically, it is one of the NITs which mean National Institutes of technology. The NITs are National level institutes which are autonomous and are deemed universities in the engineering discipline. Well, my college is also one of the NITs and therefore, a deemed university too. I can’t say much about this college but I’m sure there are lots of brilliant students here. I like being around with such talented people and I enjoy the environment here – “Hey, Never study for exam until it is too late” ;) .

Talking about college, I want to mention placements this year. About a month ago, all of the final years had been placed in one or more companies. But the thing is that just two days ago, Microsoft’s recruitment was scheduled suddenly and two got selected. Considering the placements this year, I can proudly say that my college has one of the best campus recruitments in the NITs.

The Politics – , I don’t wanna talk about it. I’ll just say there are lots of politics here and I’m not the only one who hates it. But there are good things too. So, its not much a big thing to worry.

The college is a big campus but there are a lot more fields of grass than the buildings. Sometimes, I feel like I’m in a desert because the temperature is so high, the college building is so far from the hostel and when I go for college, it reminds me of the movie “Hidalgo”.

And hey, if you wanna see some snapshots of MANIT Bhopal, check these out.

This is the best picture of my college that I have in my PC :) .
MANIT Bhopal - Main Building

This is the best part. Well, this picture is taken at the energy center which most of the students don’t bother to have a look at. But once you see this place, you will like it and I too kind of like it.
Manit Bhopal - Subway

And this is our Students’ Activity Center. I don’t know why they call it Students’ Activity Center. The students hardly go there for their activities.
Manit Bhopal - Students activity center

Well, you have seen some snapshots of my college. What do you think about it? Nice nah? But you might wanna check out if you are planning for a career here – hehe. Anyway, my crap stories about MANIT is finished here and if you want to see the real nice pictures of the Institute, visit the MANIT official website.
