MANIT or Maulana Azad National Institute Of Technology is one of the 20 premier colleges of engineering and technology education in India which are also known as NITs or National Institutes of Technology. It is also one of the first eight Regional engineering Colleges in India. MANIT was established in 1960 with the joint effort of the Govt. of India and Govt. of Madhya Pradesh. MANIT Bhopal was earlier known as Maulana Azad College of Technology (MACT). In 2002, the institute was accorded the status of deemed university and was re-christened as Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology.
Why I’m writing about MANIT is because it is where I’m pursuing my B.Tech course right now in computer science and engineering stream. I’m in Final Year now and I’m supposed be passing out from this college on July 2009. This is where I’ve spent a wonderful four years and I want to contribute something to this college while I’m still here. As a student, I would like to share a few things about this college with you.

I’ll make this part a little shorter. Let’s just look at the list of academic programs offered by MANIT:

Institute Reputation and Achievements:
With reference to this page from wikipedia, MANIT was ranked 23th amongst the top Government Engineering Colleges in India. Well, that’s something you wouldn’t get easily and I always thought I’m lucky enough to get here 
(with that little work I’ve put into getting here). Talking about achievements, the students here are brilliant and many of them have received awards in events held all over India and in the IITs too.
However, I’m not pleased to see the hands of politics in this college. As stated by many of our passed out seniors, there seems to be very little improvement in the institute infrastructure even after several years. Seniors of 1984 and 1985 or more correctly uncles who recently came here for a visit mentioned that the institute infrastructure is still the same and that they couldn’t see any major changes. This is not a good news for the Institute and I hope that I don’t say these same words when I come back here 20 years later.
BUT, there are many things I’ll never forget about this college. Comprising of students from all over India and even foreigners and NRIs, this college has everything it needs in terms of human resource. The students are very brilliant here and I’ll never forget the companionship of such brilliant friends. In fact, I don’t care if there’s no good infrastructure here but there’s good people with lots of potential and knowledge and one will never learn so much from some college with lots of infrastructures but without such notable friends and colleagues.

A Message to Freshers and Aspirers of MANIT:
I’m a student of this college but I wouldn’t say false stories just to get you into this college. If this college is bad, I would say that it’s bad or if it’s good, I would say it’s good and will advise you to come here. So, here’s my advice. I’ve already mentioned above some of the good and bad things about this college. But my advice is that this is a good college as far as I’m concerned. I got a lot of time to learn new things, face new and different people, people of different types, learned ways to behave in a corporate world and the relation between seniors and juniors. There is still a bit of senior junior thing here and you may not like it at first. But, I can assure you – you will learn lots and lots from that and that you will finally like it. In this college you can utilize your full potential to achieve your goals and dreams and no obstacles will be there. However, if you are not going to work with yourself and determine to get better, you won’t get anything better than the other colleges because no one will force you to.
